The first ever Caradon Youth Games will see more than 300 young people from South East Cornwall involved in a mass celebration of sport on Wednesday April 20. Organised by Callington School Partnership and sponsored by Caradon District Council, the games will take place at Liskeard School and Community College. Every secondary school in the Caradon district will have teams competing for medals in the Olympic style games, and everyone who participates will receive a certificate for taking part. There will also be a fair play award to highlight the importance of good sportsmanship in the games. The prizes will be awarded by Bob Brown, the Stoke Climsland ultra distance runner who won the 3,100 mile Run Across America in 2004. Ally Williams from Callington School Sports Partnership said: ?The games are a new initiative introduced to bring our whole partnership together to participate, compete and select the teams which will represent our area at the Cornwall Youth Games. ?This will hopefully be the first of many and thanks go to all parties who have worked together to make the games possible!? Callington School Sports Partnership works with nine secondary schools and more than 80 primary schools across Caradon and North Cornwall. The teams will compete in basketball (boys under 13), football (girls under 12 and girls under 14), mixed hockey (under 14 and under 15), tag rugby (girls under 15) and netball (girls under 13). The winners will have the chance to represent Caradon at the Cornwall Youth Games in June.
