WHITCHURCH Wayfarers handed out the prizes to the colts of the club. Nick Henderson from sponsors Mansbridge and Balment was on hand to present the trophies to the various winners.
The U13s, managed by Steve Hodge, had an excellent season. The highlight was a cup semi- final victory, leading to the final in which they were right in the game until eight overs from the end, when the strength in depth of Cornwood shone threw. There were significant contributions right through the squad, with wickets and runs shared around all the players.
Trophies were presented as follows: U13s best batsman, Charlie Barriball; best Bowler, Dan Towl; best fielder, Tom Jackman; all rounder, Christian Hodges; sportsman James Perring.
The U15s had a tougher season, but did have a young side. Only six of the team were truly U15s with the rest of the team supplemented by the under 13s. Of those U15s, all of them are in effect U14s and will therefore have another season of colts cricket next season. Also, pleasing was the number that stepped up and contributed to senior cricket.
Trophies were presented as follows: U15s best batsman, Josh Monger; best bowler, Christian Hodges; best fielder, Billy Barriball; U15s all rounder, Danny Hamill; sportsman Jordan Stacey.
The U11s focussed on coaching and enjoyment, giving as many players as possible an introductory taste of cricket. All of the players were presented with medals. The club are especially grateful to Gerald Whitehouse for his excellent work with the U11s this season.
The marquee prizes were handed out to the colts that have made an extraordinary contribution. The Pedrick Cup for best colt was presented to Charlie Barriball who excelled in his own age group of U13s, but was also a formidable force playing in the U15s. The Beaver Cup for most improved colt was presented to Christian Hodges, who also made a significant contribution to both under 13s and under 15s cricket.
The Den Crocker Shield for Junior clubman was jointly presented to Josh and Dom Monger. The twins have now moved away but will be sorely missed by the club.
Whitchurch CC wish to thank Mansbridge and Balment for their continued support of the club. Also, thanks go to Phil Gawman from Turners of Roborough for their sponsorship of the colts.
Thanks must go to all the coaches, Nigel, Steve, John, Mark and Gerald for the invaluable time and experiences that they have imparted. Thanks also to all the parents, umpires and scorers — without whom the matches could not be played.
n The club will be holding their annual meeting in Whitchurch Village Hall on Friday, December 3, starting at 8pm. Please contact secretary John Emptage, for more information.
