?Raising the Roof Again?, the charity concert of music and verse held at St Andrew?s, Sampford Courtenay, was a resounding success.
The church was packed as the young performers? reputations had spread, following last year?s splendid performance.
There were some spine tingling moments which held the audience spellbound. Emily Owens, Charlotte and Rebecca Mercer, Sophie Merkin, Harrie Dumenil and Alice Crawford, with an age range from 12 to 15 years, displayed talents and confidence beyond their years.
Music included the Exultate jubilate, O Mio Babino Caro, some Hailey Westernra songs and songs from the Lord of the Rings.
The girls were accompanied on the organ by their music teacher, Donald Cashmore, and were supported by St Andrew?s Church choir and a few voices from the Okehampton Choral Society, very ably conducted by Glyn Jenkins.
The evening concluded with refreshments and £450 was raised towards the church roof fund.
l St Andrew?s Church is still without a permanent organist/choirmaster following the retirement of Ken Coombes last year.
The parish is privileged to have an excellent choir, capable of performing fine music and it would be a great pity to see this asset silenced.
