YOUNG cricketers Frances Lausen, 12, and Clara Nielson, 13, of Hatherleigh Cricket Club, who were selected to play for Devon, have continued to do well ? both the U13s and U15s finished top of their South and South West Leagues. On Saturday, the deciding top of the table match was won by Devon U13s by 23 runs. Batting first on a difficult wicket, Devon made 126. Frances held the innings together with a patient 57 not out. In reply, Sussex lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 103, with Becky Piddick taking four wickets for 12 runs with well flighted off-spin. On the previous Saturday, the U15s team, which includes Frances and Clara, beat Hampshire to finish top. Both U13s and U15s now face Kent, winners of their South East Leagues. In their first season for Devon, Frances and Clara have performed well. Frances had a top score of 93 against Leicestershire, while Clara regularly took important wickets and achieved a top score of 48 not out against Herefordshire. Devon played a number of matches at two cricket festivals in addition to league games.
