Exeter Chiefs U10s 0 Okehampton U10s 30 THE U10 squad ventured into Exeter at the weekend to play Exeter Chiefs. They did not get a chance to play on the main pitch and absorb the atmosphere, but on one of the reserve pitches at St Thomas?s. The game started with the Okehampton squad out for revenge for their home defeat earlier in the season. They set to with a will and were on the attack from the start. The Chiefs were also playing well and a series of midfield tussles resulted. Strong defence by both teams showed the skills learned during training being used well. Halfway through the first half Okehampton surged up to the Chiefs? line and from a lineout Dean crossed for the first try. Okehampton built on this with the back division of Jordan, Edmund, Will and Tom showing their best form, passing the ball around with confidence and making ground. This enabled two more tries to be scored in the first half by Dean. After half-time play continued with Okehampton gaining the upper hand only to be stopped by the defence. A good breakaway move from inside the Okehampton half by Tom allowed him the opportunity of showing his paces and outdistancing his pursuers to score a try with a classic dive over the line. The forward division of Dean, James and Matt were performing great feats of containing the opposition and supplying backs with ball. The run of play continued with Dean crossing the line twice more. An excellent display of team-work by the Okehampton squad. Next training, all welcome, 6pm Friday April 1. Okehampton U9s 65 Exeter Chiefs U9s 15 A MUCH improved Exeter started the stronger but could not convert play into points. Giles Heard opened the scoring with one of three tries. Kyle May at hooker had his best game of the season and scored two well worked tries, as did the fast improving Callum Barber, who scored one. Captain Ike Francis scored one try in each half, but man of the match was Josh Punchard. He may be the smallest player on the pitch but he is also the fittest. He scored two tries. Exeter came back in the second half and scored three good tries. Okehampton showed character with Billy Searle at scrum half darting over for a try. Toby Gostling had some great runs and crossed for a fine try and Calum Pilavent barged over for the final score. Exeter Chiefs U8s 35 Okehampton U8s 40 CHARLIE Berry won the toss for Okehampton and with good passing from Angus Francis out to Ollie Francis, they opened the scoring. Chiefs came back with a quick one but Tom Pierce?s side step fooled them to give him his first of two tries. Great tackling from Jake Shin and Daniel Squires helped to keep the Chiefs from running away with the game in the first half. Okehampton stepped up the pace after the break when Luke Shin received a pass from Callum Mallett, running straight through Chiefs? defence to score. Daniel Foggerty bagged one of many tries. Chiefs? offside slowed the game but their support play enabled them to score two good tries. Exeter Chiefs U8s 20 Okehampton U8s 45 OKEHAMPTON woke up in the second game. Their tackling was more committed and their passing out enabled Charlie Berry to score after a great run down the wing. Callum Mallett was unlucky not to score his second try after being helped into touch. Chiefs never threateened in the second game but great rugby was played by both sides. Next training session Sunday April 3, 10.30am at the club.
