CALLINGTON Town Council is to meet young people to try and find a way forward following problems of anti social behaviour in the Saltash Road Car Park.
Young drivers have asked the council not to close the car park at night after an article in the East Cornwall Times highlighted the long running issues of noise and aggravation caused to residents.
Motorists hit back at the criticism saying the majority of young people who met there in cars were just socialising and not causing any trouble.
The council is looking at options including closing the car park at night but is also talking to the police and the youth service. Later this month members will meet the young people to allow them to explain their concerns.
At a meeting of the town council last week resident Michael Green said there were many others place these young people could meet away from residents, such as Kit Hill.
Cllr Jeremy Gist said groups had always congregated in Saltash Road Car Park. The difference was now that technology had moved on and cars were louder and faster and you did not see so many police officers on the beat. He said discussions were ongoing but he had even suggested to the youngsters that they hire the town hall to socialise.
