THERE will be a new opportunity to sell local produce, snap up a bargain and support a fantastic community resource in Horrabridge next month.

The youth club, situated in Fillace Lane, is about to launch a new, regular village event, with the start of its village market — the first is on Saturday March 5.

Youth worker Charlotte Carpenter said the market would be open to anyone who wished to sell produce, cakes and crafts — and at just £5 per table, the event should be accessible to any individuals or groups.

Youngsters from the youth club will also be involved in the market, which will be held on the first Saturday of every month, between 10am and 1pm.

Charlotte said: 'The kids will always have a stall of some type at the market, whether they make stuff for it, or sell teas and coffees, or do car washes. We want to show people that they are trying to be fully involved with the running of their club.'

Charlotte said the youth club was thriving, with 20 to 30 youngsters attending the sessions, which include an after school club on Tuesdays, and sessions for older children between 7pm and 9pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

There are regular helpers who support the running of the club, but Charlotte said she would love to hear from anyone else who would like to get involved.

'There may be people from further afield, outside Horrabridge, who may be able to give a few hours of their time, even if it's only once a month.'

She said the club would also like to invite anyone with particular skills or hobbies to come along for one-off sessions.

'The kids are always wanting to try new stuff — maybe someone who is keen on photography, for example.

'It could be a younger person who is keen to build up their CV, or an older person who has skills they'd like to pass on to young people.'

The club is next to a recreation area so there is plenty of outdoor space for sporting activities.

The clubhouse itself was refurbished last April. As well as a substantial meeting room, it has a kitchen, new toilets and plenty of chairs and tables, plus parking. It is available for hire at £8 per hour.

Charlotte said: 'It's ideal for birthday parties, it could be used for pilates, the U3A, local history groups — it's not used during the day and it would be really good to make it more sustainable.'
