FREE fun-filled activities for children and young people are on offer in the Princetown and Okehampton areas this spring.

Since summer 2008, West Devon Borough Council has been using its £200,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund to provide free activities for children across West Devon. So far, more than 2,200 youngsters have enjoyed a range of sporting, creative and fun activities in their own communities.

This Easter there are a range of activities on offer. The Princetown Opportunity for Play (POP) project, run by the Borough Council, has eight activities planned in Princetown, taking place either in or from the Princetown Pavilion.

l Monday April 11: den building 10am–1pm and street dance 6.30pm–8.30pm (both 8 years +)

l Tuesday April 12: surfing 12.15pm–6pm (13 years + )

l Wednesday April 13: climbing 9.30am–4.30pm (age 8 to year 6)

l Monday April 18: Ice skating (girls only) 1pm–4.30pm (13 years +)

l Tuesday April 19: horse riding 2.30pm-5.15pm (10 to 13 years)

l Wednesday April 20: Easter cooking 10am–noon (age 8 to year 6)

l Thursday April 21: barbecue and disco 4.30pm –7pm (8 years +).

Over Easter, Okehampton Community Recreation Association is running two free OCRA Outreach sport, free-play and art sessions for 6 to 14 year olds on Monday April 18 at the Drewsteignton Playing Field, 10am-noon and North Tawton Primary School 2pm-4pm free. No need to book, just come along.

After the Easter holidays, throughout the summer term Okehampton Community Recreation Association is running the OCRA Action Club again in Chagford, Hatherleigh, Bridestowe, South Tawton, Boasley Cross, Northlew, Exbourne, Lewdown, Okehampton, North Tawton and Lydford.

Building on the success of last summer, the OCRA Action Club is an exciting after-school club which invites children and young people to come along to join in the fun and free-play for two hours after school. The club offers them the equipment and space to create or choose their own free play in their local community.
