THE?Yelverton Bohemians Cricket Club Colts' Academy held its annual awards presentations at Meavy Village Hall.

The academy has more than 100 young players ranging from the U7s age group through to U15s with four teams playing competitive hardball cricket in the West Devon Palladium League – the U11s Mosquitoes, U11s Hurricanes, U13s Typhoons and the U15s Whirlwinds.

There are also two younger age groups playing softball cricket, the U9s Spitfires and the U7s Mini-Spitfires.

All the team names are taken from aircraft once stationed at the nearby former Second World War airfield, RAF Harrowbeer - a mere 'six' hit from Yelverton's picturesque Langton Park Ground.

The 2010 season was a successful one for the academy's teams, with the U11s Hurricanes winning the league and the combined U11s team winning the Cup. The U13s Typhoons and U15s Whirlwinds finished mid table in their leagues.

The club now boasts two UKCC club coaches, nine UKCC level two coaches and six UKCC level one coaches and hopes to achieve the ECB's Clubmark Accreditation in 2011. The academy provided 30 players for the West Devon district squads in 2010 and  six players, Pierce Widdecombe, Jacob David-Ward, Ben Dunlop, Harry Dunlop, David Ackford and Emily Adams have also represented Devon at various age groups. At the presentation, there were 33 trophies presented with categories for best batsman, best bowler and best fielder and also a manager's and coaches awards.  Coaches awards were presented to the two youngest age-groups.

All the awards were handed out by club president Brian Chetwynd. An overall award, the Langton Cup, was presented to the academy player of the year along with a number of special achievement awards for outstanding individual performances during the season. Thanks was also given to the U11s teams' sponsors Devonport Royal Dockyard Employee Trust and the U13s and U15s sponsors Glanville Cleansing.
