TAVISTOCK Athletic Club juniors did themselves and the town proud in winning the Devon County sportshall league last Sunday. It is the first time in the club's history they have managed to achieve this. The juniors had to compete in five meetings and, having come second 12 months ago, they set their stalls out from the start.
From the first meeting they increased their lead all the way through, resulting in this fine achievement. The final meeting not only saw them win but turn out with 49 juniors, a record for the club, and between them gain 58 individual medals.
The club's juniors age from 8 to 15 and this showed in the team events where the U10 girls, U10 boys, U11 girls, U11 boys and U13 boys all won their age groups, the U13 girls coming second, U15 boys third and the U15 girls coming fourth, just missing third place by 26 points.
Credit must not only go to the children but the number of parents who got them to Dawlish for each of the meets and for the encouragement given to all those taking part.
