OKEHAMPTON Carnival Committee would like to thank everyone for making our 2005 Carnival such a success. The weather was extremely kind to us all day and many people were drawn to watch both the afternoon and evening processions. We must, of course, pass on our grateful thanks to the many organisations and individuals who help on the day to ensure a safe and smooth-running carnival ? Dartmoor Rescue Group and the ATC for marshalling, Steve Bolt and Ross Campbell for erecting the barriers (and S W Highways for the loan of the signs) and St John Ambulance. We also thank the many shops and businesses who supported the carnival by providing advertisements for our programme, taking part in our window competition or by displaying posters. We are grateful to White House Services, once again, for supplying the sweets for the children who took part in the afternoon procession and to Devon County Jewellers who kindly donated the gifts for the queen and her attendant and the prince and princess. Our thanks also to Light Hire for the loan of the generators and to Averys, Barry Gee and D J and M J Kelly and partners for the loan of vehicles. Our thanks too to the many collectors and Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band who gave their time freely for both the afternoon and evening processions. I am also sure we were all very pleased to see the Radio Devon presenters join us again this year. We also say a big thank you to the local farmers for the loan of tractors, trailers and sheds, without which the colourful floats could not be constructed. We must also recognise the many careful drivers who ensure the safe passage of the procession along the carnival route. We are also grateful to Crafty Cards and J C Books for distributing and collecting entry forms and also to the fire service who, once again, kindly led the evening procession through the town. Finally our thanks go to the many participants, both local and from other towns and villages, without whom there would be no carnival!
