IF you fancy yourself as a Fred Dibnah the Finch Foundry may have the ideal opportunity for you. The National Trust foundry at Sticklepath is looking for volunteers who can spare a small amount of their time to help present an unique part of Devon?s heritage to visitors. It is the last remaining water-powered forge in England. The trust will provide full training and support, allowing volunteers to learn new skills as well as practising existing ones. Opportunities include working in the shop and reception, but others are available. Roger Boney, custodian at the foundry, said their aim was to make the ?Finch experience? as pleasurable for both visitor and volunteer alike. ?Without volunteers, Finch Foundry could not function and would cease to be the highlight of many people?s visit to Devon,? he said. Anyone who is physically fit and outgoing who is interested in volunteering is invited to have a look around the foundry and have an informal chat with staff and existing volunteers.
