A FORMER Okehampton College student has been awarded the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Open Award at a ceremony in London.
Becky Howe, 18, collected her award from St James' Palace on October 26. For her gold award expedition, Becky took part in a five-day camping trip on the North Yorkshire moors as part of a team of four, travelling across the moor's tough terrain.
Other aspects of her work towards gaining the award included floristry and volunteering at the British Heart Foundation shop in the town centre.
At the award ceremony, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, congratulated the recipients on their hard work and achievements.
Anyone interested in taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme should contact Mr Wilson or Mr Blowey at the college.
