A LAMERTON ex-serviceman will make a pilgrimage to the Falkland Islands next week to mark Remembrance Day, 20 years on from the Falklands conflict.

Yorkie Malone will travel with around 200 other Falklands veterans to be on the islands for Remembrance Day.

The trip has been organised by the South Atlantic Medal Association (SAMA) which has chartered a special flight to Mount Pleasant.

Yorkie Malone served as a Royal Marine with 45 Commando in the 1982 conflict with Argentina.

The Duke of York will be attending the remembrance service, and a BBC Songs of Praise link-up will take place to mark the solemn occasion. The pilgrimage aims to remember those who lost their lives on both sides.

Yorkie said he did not know what to expect when he returns to the Falklands, but he felt he needed to go to ?clear things up in his mind?.

He said: ?We have got to be brave, perhaps braver than in 1982, because back then I was only doing the job I was supposed to do.?

He will leave for the Falklands on Wednesday, November 6, and will spend four days there.
