ON Wednesday Yelverton U15s hosted Cornwood U15s at Langton Park.
Yelverton's opening pair of Dan Cooper and David Ackford reaching 27 before Cooper was bowled by Boase for 15. With the total on 32-3 after 12 overs Ben Pearson joined Ackford and Ackford duly hit 23 off the next over to swing the momentum back to the home side. Pearson went on to hit an unbeaten 46 off only 27 balls with two sixes and four fours, and in partnership with Ackford the pair put on 95 to take the Whirlwinds up to 127-3 off their 20 overs. Ackford was unbeaten on 53. Boase (1-12), Will Caufield (1-12) and skipper Matt Skeemer (0-17) all bowled good four over spells.
In reply, the Cornwood openers raced to 15 off three overs. However, the dismissal of Caufield, caught by Ben Grove off Ackford for 13 was soon followed by the dismissal of Skeemer for 2 — caught by Ackford off the bowling of Cooper (1-16) to leave Cornwood on 16-2. Will Sargeant and Bradley Nicholls put on 26 for the third wicket against some tight bowling from Jay Warner (1-6 off 4). Nicholls (11) was dismissed with the score on 42 and then George Thompson and Sargeant put on 37 before Thompson fell for 13, caught by Pearson off Cameron Dawe. Dawe then removed Boase and John Whitfield both caught by James Douie to end up with figures of 3-24. Cornwood reached 105-7 to leave Yelverton winners by 22 runs.
On Sunday, Yelverton travelled to Whitchurch. Yelverton openers David Ackford and Dan Cooper put on 39 for the first wicket before Cooper was run out. Ackford and Matt Adams took the score to 45 before Ackford was out for 26 off the bowling of Billy Barriball. Ben Pearson joined Adams and they put on a partnership of 54 for the fourth wicket. After Adams departed for 11 with the score on 95, Pearson completed his 50 taking 14 off the next over before he was caught in the deep looking for a sixth six by Billy Barriball of the bowling of R Bone with the score on 109. Ed Degg played a cameo of 16 to take the Whirlwinds final total up to 128-5 off their 20 overs. Billy Barriball (2-19 off 4), Dan Poole (0-18) bowled good spells for Whitchurch.
In reply, the Barriball brothers Billy and Charlie took the score to 17 before Billy Barriball was caught by Cameron Dawe off Cooper. Cooper completed his spell for the superb figures of 4-1-8-1. Charlie Barriball was then bowled by Matt Adams (1-19) for 11. When Rob Bone was bowled by Sam Skelton (1-18) for 5, Whitchurch were on 36-3 and at 54-4 Josh Towl (35no) and Dan Bermingham put on a partnership of 52 for the fifth wicket as Whitchurch innings closed on 107-6 to leave the Whirlwinds winners by 21 runs.
