OKEHAMPTON WI and folk arts development charity Wren Music will present an evening of songs and music next Friday (October 12) featuring two of the Devon?s brightest stars of folk music, Paul Wilson and Jim Causley. Paul, who is a co-founder of Wren, has been entertaining audiences for 30 years. The multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer and songwriter is particularly noted for his strikingly traditional voice, deft finger-style guitar techniques, and robust accordion playing. Alongside his performing work, Paul has had an illustrious career as a folk music educator for more than 25 years and has won many awards. Young Devon folk singer Jim Causley has gained a strong following in folk clubs throughout the country and was nominated for best newcomer at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2006, with a further nomination in 2007 for his work with trio the Devil?s Interval. Jim has become renowned for his warm, rich and mature singing voice, quoted as being ?akin to the fruitiest of real ales?, his natural gift for interpreting traditional song and his wry and cheeky stage presence. The event will take place from 7.30pm to 10.30pm at Okehampton Conservative Club and tickets for the concert, priced at £5, include a light buffet. A bar will also be available.
