A SCHOOL pupil who raised more than £3,000 from two charity walks and a tireless fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support were both presented with Citizen of the Year Awards at Callington's Civic Service recently.
Jonny Burnard, 12, walked 50 miles from Callington Community College to Guipavas in France to raise money for the Dr Ambedkar Charitable Trust, a charity-run school in Northern India for extremely poor children who would not normally get the chance of education.
He raised £2,300 from the walk and last year walked the coastal path raising £800.
Jonny, who was supported on his walk by his father Andy, presented a cheque to Anil Ahir, the son of the couple who run the charity and production director of Tamar Foods, at Callington's portreeve choosing ceremony last week.
Outgoing portreeve Karen Gold said Jonny, who was also awarded the Junior CATS (Community Action Through Sport) award this year for his voluntary work and was part of the International Team at the College, was a credit to his family and himself.
Terry Bolt, who has recently returned from the Grand Tour, driving from John O' Groats to Lands End in an MG sports car with local man Jeff Hearn, was awarded for his charity efforts which in his latest venture raised £6,700.
Terry has been a Callington lion for many years, and has given sterling service to that organisation.
His efforts for Macmillan Cancer Support in recent years included undertaking several arduous trips such as the Great Wall of China.
Cllr Gold said Terry was never stinting of his time or energy when it comes to fund-raising.
