THIS Sunday (May 19) is 'World Nordic Walking Day' and West Devon Nordic Walking UK instructors Fiona Swan and Elaine Sylvester will be running a celebratory event on Dartmoor.
Starting from Bellever Forest car park at 10.30am there will be an introductory Nordic walking session for all ages and fitness levels. Everyone is welcome to come and try but booking is essential.
The Nordic Walking Day is a day of unified commemoration of Nordic Walking around the world; it is for everyone, all ages and abilities. Thousands of participants around the world take to the countryside or streets to share in INWA Nordic Walking Day, promoting health and physical activity.
Fiona said: 'We've both been teaching Nordic walking in Devon for many years and we both agree that it's wonderful to witness individuals discover and enjoy an activity that works for them. Devon is amazing for walking and we're really keen for more people from across the county to give it a go.'
Nordic Walking, walking with poles like cross-country skiers, is a low-impact form of exercise, suitable for everyone from 18 to 88.
By using specially designed poles you work all of the major muscles in the body, without putting unnecessary strain on your joints.
Starting with a basic introduction to Nordic walking, Fiona and Elaine, who is also a Dartmoor guide, will lead an enjoyable walk through the forest to Bellever Tor.
Allow two hours for the session. To reserve a place and poles contact Elaine Sylvester on 07989 575182 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
