A SERIES of interactive local food workshops is being staged for young people in West Devon this month. The workshops, for young people aged between 14 and 19, will be run by environmental charity Westden at Hatherleigh Community Centre on October 11 and 18 and November 1. Workshop co-ordinator Diana Lee said: ?The young people will be preparing, cooking and tasting local food with the help of professionals from the local area. ?In this way we hope that they will become ?food ambassadors, sharing their experiences with their friends.? The workshop participants will have the opportunity to meet and work with local chefs, Snout and Trotter, sausage makers, fishmongers from Waitrose and other producers, as well as compiling a cookery survival guide for young people. The events are being run to encourage young people to cook and eat more healthily using locally produced food and to support local producers and cut food miles. Places will be limited. There are still a few places left for the Tavistock workshops starting on October 4 and further sessions are planned for Gunnislake and Princetown in November.
