WORK has started on the construction of a pedestrian crossing opposite Mount Kelly.
The crossing on the A386 will be a welcome relief for staff and students from the college after years of negotiating the busy road in order to access the sports facilities.
The news follows a report in the Times last week that planning permission was granted for the construction of a footbridge over the River Tavy. A pedestrian crossing and a bridge over the river will better connect the college and prep school allowing pupils and staff to move more freely and safely between the two.
Richard Smith, commercial director at Mount Kelly, said: ‘The A386 is a busy road that effectively dissects the Mount Kelly site and work will start on the construction of a pedestrian crossing. This will further ensure the safety of pupils using the facilities on both sides of the road and also the ever increasing numbers of the public using the new 50m Olympic Legacy swimming pool.
‘We are continually upgrading our sports facilities and the last couple of years have seen significant investment and improvements. That programme is continuing and with increasing pupil numbers and expanding community use it is essential that these facilities are better connected.’
l Until July 31 a temporary two-way traffic light system will be in place.
