South Zeal 2
Feniton 1
SOUTH Zeal were well worth this win on Saturday and but for some great saves by the visiting keeper could have won by a far larger margin.
Kicking up the slope and against a strong wind in the first half Zeal dominated Feniton, who were reduced to a few breakaway attacks.
Early on in the first half Steve Pillivant and Alan Vile were denied by the visiting keeper. On the half-hour Zeal took the lead when a ball broke to Henry Bellairs on the edge of the Feniton penalty area and hit an unstoppable shot into the far corner of the net.
In the second half it looked as if Zeal would win by a large margin but chances were not converted. They paid the penalty when after 15 minutes of the second half Feniton scored a great goal from a corner when one of their attackers hit a half-volley past Dave Wooldridge, the Zeal keeper.
In the last 20 minutes Zeal could have had a hatful of goals but Dan Pengelly saw a header go just wide and Tim Sanderson shot just wide from six yards. Alan Vile netted after a great run by Harley Cann but was ruled offside and Ian Luke had three goalbound attempts saved by the Feniton keeper.
But Feniton's luck ran out ten minutes from time when a corner taken by Garry Smith fell to Reg Wonnacott ten yards out and he made no mistake with a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
Zeal's next match is home to Sandford on Saturday week, March 23, kick-off 3pm.
Okehampton Argyle Seconds 0
Westexe 1
OKEHAMPTON again had to field another side who have not played together and come the finish were unlucky not to share the points against a team looking good for a promotion spot.
The young Okehampton side played with great spirit and were to match the visitors in every area.
Both sides played good passing football and with the wind in their favour Westexe had a large slice of luck with the only goal of the match — the ball spun off the heel of their striker and looped over Steve Ausden for an easy tap-in which Scott Leyman could do little about.
Okehampton had much more pace about them but Westexe used their experience to slow the game down. When they did threaten the Okehampton goal Scott Leyman covered his angles and looked very confident.
Tim Shaw never really got the service and chased a lot of ball out wide on the flanks but always looked capable of beating the visiting defence if he got the right ball.
This Saturday home to Axmouth 3pm kick-off on the main pitch.
