YOUR report (June 17) announced that Angela Rippon had been awarded the OBE.
My congratulations,well deserved.
May I question your statement that she was the first female newsreader on national television? I was a child at the time, 1950, but clearly remember Macdonald Hobley being the main reader alongside two ladies: 1, Sylvia Peters and 2 Mary Malcolm.
As a relative of Macdonald Hobley I remember them clearly and met them. They used to have a television ball organised by the television monthly ?Scan?. All quite some time before Angela would have even started school!
I still have the autographs I collected then, quite a craze amongst young school children at that time.
