POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 70s was knocked down in a hit and run incident.

Robert McKnight was struck by an old style small red car at the junction of Crediton Road and Northfield Road on Saturday December 17 between 9.30am and 9.45am.

The driver failed to stop the car, leaving Mr McKnight lying in the road with fractures to his left ankle. Passers by helped Mr McKnight from the road, and drove him to hospital.

Mr McKnight is now at home on crutches, with his ankle in plaster.

He has expressed thanks to everyone who helped to get him from the road to the pavement, and to the gentleman who drove him to the hospital following the incident.

Police are looking for witness, anyone with information and for the driver of the red car to come forward. This can be done by attending Okehampton Police Station or by calling 101 and quoting log number 176 21/12/11.
