Duchy knockout cup 3rd round Lamerton 3 Boscastle 1 (aet) PREMIERE side Boscastle travelled to a 100% record, division 2 Lamerton. All the ingredients were present for a potential cup classic, with the weather conditions to play the biggest part of the mix. Lamerton vibrantly took the lead midway through the first half when Dan Healy?s long through ball played in Zac Beesley, who cut in from the left and comfortably beat the keeper. The goal would seem to count dearly with the water logged pitch degrading more and more. Lamerton kept up their positive play and created some good chances soon after, two of which wasted with just the keeper to beat. A Boscastle break at the beginning of the second half, with captain Simon Breyley caught way up field resulted in an equalising goal, scrambled in by Dan Ovens. With the pitch getting worse play was slower and more energy sapping, producing less goalmouth activity. Lamerton pushed harder for the win with wide men Steve Gibbings and Dave Byworth playing well. Boscastle were on the wrack by extra time with hardly any efforts on Pete Daniels? goal and they could not hold on for penalties when 2nd half sub Pete Broomfield stole the show. He latched on to a whipped Healy cross to make it 2-1 and then sealed the tie with a firm shot after superb wing play from the never tiring Paul Cowling. It was a well-deserved and spirited win from the underdogs. Full backs Will Cann and Panda Williams were excellent throughout, Paul and Simon Breyley at the heart of the defence were as strong as ever and Kev Swift battled and bullied the midfield. A very entertaining game under extreme conditions, with both sides? good nature and sporting behaviour deserving a mention. This week more knockout action in the league cup, home to Tywardreath, 2pm kick off.
