Devon and Exeter Premier League Okehampton 1st 4 Clyst Valley 2 OKEHAMPTON started brightly and soon got their passing game going, stretching their opponents. James Williams opened the scoring for Argyle when he followed up his own powerful strike and scored on the rebound. Clyst enjoyed some good periods of play but it was Argyle that added to their lead when Warwick Botham took a free kick from the half way line. Somehow the Clyst keeper managed to let the ball go through his hands unchallenged. Steve Kinsey worked tirelessly for Argyle, with some superb runs down the flanks, supported well by Robbie Miller, Adam Mortimer and Steve Williams, who proved too strong for the Clyst defence. Argyle were soon three goals up when Steve Williams chipped the keeper from close range. Just when it looked like Argyle were going to win easily Clyst scored when awarded a penalty. Argyle increased their lead once again when Robert Sandercock sent in a superb corner and James Williams was on hand to volley home. With 15 minutes remaining Clyst refused to be beaten and added a second, making the game a tense finish for Argyle. l Okehampton Argyle Football Club members and friends were delighted to see Kenny Ball at the game after a long illness and would like to wish him well for the future. This week away to Exmouth in the league with a 3pm start. Okehampton Cup quarter final Okehampton 1st 3 Exeter Civil Service 2 ARGYLE moved a step nearer the final and within a week have progressed through to two cup semi-finals with last week's success over Exmouth. Civil took an early lead when the Argyle keeper failed to hold on to a cross; the Civil striker pounced to punish his mistake. Okehampton battled hard and were unlucky when a Steve Williams cross was met by Robert Sandercock and came back off the foot of the post. A good move saw Argyle level when Steve Kinsey made a fine run down the right wing crossing for Steve Williams to equalise. The second half started with Argyle playing the better football and they were soon rewarded when Steve Kinsey was brought down in the area and James Williams stepped up to take the penalty. With a powerful shot he found the corner of the net. Argyle concentrated on their football and added a third when a Sandercock corner found James Williams. He made no mistake and hammered the ball home from a tight angle. Civil battled hard and were denied by a superb save from the Argyle keeper when one on one the keeper spread himself well and saved with his feet. A good move by Civil was rewarded with a goal when they raided down Argyle's right wing and delivered a good cross for the striker cleanly to head home. l Argyle wish to thank Andy Butler for organising this competition and all the hard work that he puts into the club.
