WILDLIFE enthusiasts and art connoisseurs alike can enjoy an exhibition of work by Devon-based wildlife artist Neil Patey at the High Moorland Visitor Centre in Princetown.
The intricate paintings on display aim to capture the beauty of Dartmoor?s wildlife and the habitats that support it.
Ponies, falcons, buzzards and owls are among the many species featured in the exhibition which runs until December 18 in the centre?s Dartmoor Gallery.
Neil, who was born in Dartmouth, studied graphic design at South Devon College and Loughborough University before working as a graphic designer in Bristol for a short period.
In 1996, at the age of 23, he turned his back on the design industry, having lost interest in what had become a computer-based profession.
His love of Dartmoor?s flora and fauna, coupled with his natural flair for illustration, drew him into wildlife painting, which is how he now makes a living.
Over the last six years Neil has evolved two very different artistic styles. The first and most time consuming is a detailed and controlled approach using acrylic paints and some very fine brushes.
The second technique uses glues, enamel paints and varnish and can require up to 20 layers to achieve the desired effect.
Neil has produced over 250 originals in his relatively short career, as well as 19 limited edition prints. His latest collection can be viewed every day of the week from 10am to 4pm.
