Division 4 Cup second round

Lamerton 2

Grampound 0

LAMERTON progressed into the quarter-finals of the cup with a hard earned victory over Grampound from the west division and will play neighbours Calstock for a place in the semis.

After a shaky first five minutes when the home side continually gave the ball away they then settled and applied constant pressure on the visitors? defence.

But a combination of bad luck and poor finishing meant the score remained goalless until a minute before half-time when a great ball down the left from Panda Williams freed Steve Wickett who coolly beat the Grampound keeper from close range.

The second half went a similar way to the first with Grampound defending in depth on a sticky pitch and Lamerton attacking down both flanks.

The game was made safe with 15 minutes left when Wickett turned in a Paul Cowling cut back to bag his second. For the home side the defence was solid with Sean Cann adding to the attacking options down the right hand side and Paul Breyley and Kev Swift working tirelessly to secure the midfield.

This weekend away at Edgecumbe on Saturday (league) and on Sunday at home to St Dominick (Chairman?s Cup).
