LAMERTON WI members have taken a quilt project to heart for dementia sufferers.

The members have been busy creating a number of 'fidget quilts' for residents at a local care home.

Fidget Quilts are designed to give dementia sufferers something to occupy their hands and to remind them of normal, everyday things from their past.

A Tavistock Rotarian, Geri Parlby, was instrumental and inspirational in putting forward the idea and several members of the Lamerton WI took up the idea as something they could move forward with as a project.

The WI members contacted Camplehaye residential home, which specialises in dementia, which was very interested in the project.

The WI members set to work and made a selection of beautiful lap quilts with different sensory aspects or reminders of activities, all backed with towelling which will not slip from residents' laps.

The fidget quilts were presented to Camplehaye, where they were very well received and will now become an integral part of the management of dementia cases.
