I THINK that it?s a really good idea that young people are being encouraged to get more involved in politics (Times, July 24).

So many people still fail to realise that our politicians are about to make a monumentally historic change in the way we are governed if the UK adopts the new proposed constitution for the European Union.

For the last 30 years various governments have been handing over control of our country piecemeal to a political regime we now call the European Union.

We were assured originally that all we are agreeing to was a trading partnership. However, documents have been released which prove this assurance was false.

The EU will soon have so much power over the people that to criticise it will be an offence, and political parties advocating withdrawal from it can have their funds frozen ? No money = No Party.

Officials and their servants enjoy a lifetime?s immunity from legal proceedings from anything done in office ? should anyone be above the law?

The younger generation do need to take an interest in politics, because they are the ones that are going to have to live with the mess their older generations are about to leave them.
