WITH reference to the problem of charities using Tavistock Pannier Market as part of their fundraising, I would propose that one corner of the market, say two or four tables is set aside for charity use on a weekly or bi-monthly basis, preferably on a Saturday when volunteers are available to organise it. These should be offered for free and regulated by an outside body, possibly the Volunteer Bureau, to avoid one charity having preference. This avoids any problem with the fifth Saturday scenario and allows the important work of all charities to benefit from a great opportunity to advertise their work and raise funds at the same time. Why not try this out for a six-month period and see how it goes? Geri Laithwaite Communities in Action a Westden project Tavistock
