CROWNDALE, Tavistock was the venue for the Large Schools Football Tournament for Tavistock Area Primary Schools.

Thirteen teams from six schools took part in a fiercely competitive event with Whitchurch emerging as the winner.

Horrabridge and St Andrew’s entered three teams, Tavistock, Whitchurch and Bere Alston two teams and St Peter’s one.

Whitchurch A and Bere Alston A were first and second in group one, St Andrew’s B and Horrabridge A were first and second in group two and St Andrew’s C won the third group, followed by Tavistock A in second place.

Whitchurch, St Andrew’s B and St Andrew’s C went straight through to the semi-finals with Bere Alston A, Tavistock A and Horrabridge A involved in a play-off for the fourth semi-final place.

Bere Alston emerged the winners and played St Andrew’s C in a very tight semi-final match which ended in sudden death penalties and Bere Alston the victors.

Whitchurch won 2-0 against St Andrew’s B and the final game took place between Whitchurch and Bere Alston who had already met in group one.

The final score was 2-0 to Whitchurch who received the gold medals from Mhairi McCall of OCRA who organised the event. Bere Alston were presented with silver medals.

Both teams, along with the two St Andrew’s teams who made it to the semi-finals, will be invited to attend the West Devon finals.
