WEST Devon is going all out this year to collect as many Christmas trees as possible to recycle. A range of tree recycling schemes are available across the borough over the festive season. Residents on the Green and Clean garden waste scheme will be able to get their trees collected from the kerbside as part of the fortnightly collection. All you have to do is place your tree alongside your Green and Clean reusable bags of garden waste and thick cardboard. Check your Green and Clean recycling diary for your collection dates. North Tawton Environmental Trust will also be collecting Christmas trees for composting. Trees are to be laid down outside properties on the kerbside by 10 am on Sunday January 9. There is also a Christmas tree collection point at Leg O? Mutton car park in Yelverton and trees should be placed on the grass opposite the recycling banks the night before January 13 where they will be picked up at 7.30am that day. At Chagford, Proper Job will be taking Christmas trees from January 6 between 10am and 4pm weekdays and from 10am to 1pm on Saturdays at their community composting site at Crannaford industrial estate. You can also take your tree to the dog exercising field at the top of Church Lane in Bere Alston on January 8 from 9am to 12.30pm where your tree will be chipped. This service has been kindly provided by Landscapes South West. At Mary Tavy?s community composting site, between Mary Tavy Power station and St Raphael, a similar chipping service will be provided on January 8 from 9am to noon, kindly provided by Greenhills Tree Services. At both Bere Alston and Mary Tavy, residents can take away the bags of wood chip for their gardens. In all cases, decorations and containers should be removed from the trees before they are put out for collection. Alternatively trees can be taken, during opening hours, to the recycling centres located at Crowndale in Tavistock, and Exeter Road in Okehampton. For further information about any of these services contact West Devon Borough Council on 01822 813655.
