MEMBERS of North Devon Wheelers Cycle Club were out in force on Sunday for their club?s annual Round The Houses 32-mile time trial.

The near gale force conditions were not expected to produce fast times, but the eventual winner Greg Sandy (Team Alcan) seemed oblivious to the wind to finish with an extraodinary time of 1hr 14min 3sec which was more than four minutes faster than second placed Andrew Parker (Mid Devon CC).

The promoting club also performed well with Steve Sage posting a time of 1hr 19min 54sec which was good enough for fourth place overall, just 16 seconds off the time of third placed rider Sean Childs (RN&RMCA).

Ray Retter?s time of 1hr 22min 8sec was also quick enough to earn him fastest veterans? prize.

Of the other North Devon Wheelers entered, for many it was their first race of the season but they can be sure there will not be many harder races this year.

More North Devon Wheelers times: Mark Lees, 1:25:41; Adrian Street, 1:27:13; Nick Harwood, 1:32:14; Stuart Brewer, 1:37:52; James Benning, 1:39:32; Clark Denby, 1:40:08.

On Saturday Adrian Street rode in tough conditions at Penzance Wheelers Circuit Races at RAF Portreath and his battling performance was rewarded with a fine fifth place.
