TAVISTOCK Wheelers, the town's own road bike club, has revamped and relaunched its website http://www.tavywheelers.co.uk">www.tavywheelers.co.uk - to meet the growing demand for more information about its activities.

Its weekly Sunday morning and Wednesday evening club rides, have especially been attracting increasing numbers of men and women riders, of all ages.

The website gives details on both rides and recommends to new riders that they join the Sunday ride, which starts at 8am from Bedford Square, as the pace is slower and provides more opportunity for conversation.

The club assumes a basic level of fitness among newcomers; that they can cope with Devon's challenging terrain and ride for at least two hours comfortably. However, club rides provide the best option of improving that base fitness and many club members have gone on to take part in time trials, endurance rides, triathlons and the like, even if their only initial aim was to get fitter.

Mike Deacon , club chairman, said: 'The club is on a crest of a wave at the moment with more and more people realising the benefits of improved health and fitness and that being amongst a group of like minded but friendly and helpful people is the best way to achieve that target.
