BUDDING young chefs from Tavistock College recently created their own dishes from scratch for a school competition. Students for the Year 9 and 10 heat were the first to take part in the Young Chef of the Year competition which saw them produce a main meal and a dessert from locally produced ingredients. Year 9 students, John Hardy, Will Bird and Sarah Chapman, made it through to the competition final. Year 10 students were unable to take part as they were busy getting ready for work experience. The heat for Years 7 and 8 was held last week and the heat for the senior students, Years 11, 12 and 13, is being held today (Thursday). The winners from each heat will go through to the final on Tuesday, July 3 and their creations will be judged by chef Peter Gorton. Picture by James Bird
