ANYONE who has anything to offer young people in Okehampton from careers to leisure activities is being asked to get in touch with the recently opened one-stop shop of information for youth — 'Directions.'

The shop is currently open four days a week and aims to provide young people in the community from the ages of 11 to 25 with up-to-date information on services and organisations available to them, accessing employment and volunteering opportunities and local gigs and events.

In other words if you have got a question which includes what? where? when? or who? then 'Directions' in East Street will try to answer it.

An information base is being built up and the shop, which has come about through a partnership between Okehampton Teens to Twenties, Okehampton Youth Forum and the Community Education Youth Service, has internet access.

Youth development worker Carol Jones is keen to get any organisations or individuals on board who have something that could interest the youth of the town and surrounding areas.

'If someone wants to know if there is a football team for over 14s in Bratton Clovelly then we want to be able give them the answer,' she said.

'If anyone wants to use the premises to promote or develop their service, event or activity they are welcome to come along and have a chat.'

The health advice service 'The Key' which has been running at Okehampton College over the past year is now available on Mondays at 'Directions' from 12.30pm to 2pm and careers information will be provided by the Devon and Cornwall Careers Service on Tuesdays from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

'Directions' will also be open from 11am to 2pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout August.

For more information or if you have something that would be of interest to young people telephone 01837 55444 or 53800.
