CAN anyone explain the plaque inserted on a wall opposite Kelly College? Just past the astro-turf playing fields there is a stone wall — right hand side of the road — towards the trout farm. A small stone plaque has been inserted with the words: This road was made by public subscription in a period of great distress 1817. What caused the 'great distress'? I have had no luck so far.
