I AM very concerned with what is happening to Okehampton, supposedly in the name of progress. I love Okehampton, having lived and worked in the area for nearly threequarters of my 82 years. The market appears to be under threat and with it the dog training group. Have the powers that be realised how much we will lose if this group is ?killed off?? They provide an excellent service in conjunction with our local vets in helping to train owners to be responsible dog owners. They also arrange dog shows during the year which are recognised by the Kennel Club and bring dog owners from all over the country. More revenue for the town I would have thought? Yes a cinema would be nice, we miss the old Carlton, but let us not sacrifice our Market Hall. If we are going to be better off travelling to Tavistock for our council offices etc why can?t those people who want the cinema so much go to the Wharf in Tavistock? I hear it is a good venue, but as I have to rely on public transport I have not yet been able to confirm this. The one thing we do need in Okehampton is a ?drop in centre? for the older people. Age Concern is now confined to a small shop and serves us well but we need more. And we need the market. Mrs K M Pavely Fern Meadow Okehampton
