I READ with interest your article (June 27) concerning the lack of parking available to market visitors, caused by the double booking of events on June 22 and the subsequent use of the Guildhall car park. The horrendous distance one is required to walk to the car park at Plymouth Road highlights the state of parking in Tavistock at this present time. If that facility is full, one is forced into a hike from Market Street.
Whilst it may be true that a large car park is available at Somerfield, if one is to avoid parking so far away, then Meadowlands is the only alternative - apart from the bus station, of course, with no other parking available, outside the one at Pixon Lane, oh, and that one by the cattle market, no parking of any note exists in Tavistock at all.
In short, with the exception of Plymouth Road, Market Street, Somerfield, Meadowlands, the bus station, Pixon Lane and the cattle market, what have the council ever done for the poor, beleaguered driver in Tavistock? Nothing, that's what.

WHAT an excellent example on Saturday week, so dramatically reported (Times, June 27), of the very reason I chose to run for Tavistock Town and West Devon Borough Councils, nearly four years ago now, as a councillor who cares!
The joint projects of town and borough to facilitate a really worthwhile community fair inside the pannier market, whilst outside the farmers' market serving our local rural population, and inside the town hall the local arts exhibition encouraging local artists of varied ages and talents!
I wish to congratulate all those involved in creating such a successful and excellent example of working together for the benefit of all members and for the safe enjoyment and well being of the community we serve.
Added to this are the obvious benefits to traders in the town of attracting visitors from all over the borough to enjoy Tavistock's rich and varied business and historic amenities.
