I WOULD like to join in querying the council tax rates set for 2000/2001 in Tavistock: Roger Dobson's letter (November 30) refers.
In 97/98 a 'G' band property town paid £2 more than a Tavistock 'G' band property. In 98/99 the difference was just under £7 again in Tavistock's favour. As a one off last year, because of our council's lack of foresight: i.e. no insurance against poor workmanship, I was told to stump up £175.91 more for my property than one in Okehampton.
This year, with great pride, my council tax goes down by £7 but so does the Okehampton one; so, once again, I pay £175.91 more for my property than a similar one in Okehampton!
Where is the promised payback? Why is the gap between our council tax and Okehampton's still being maintained? What is Okehampton doing right that we are doing wrong?
Answers please.
