A VETERAN member of a Tavistock gym has celebrated his 60th birthday with a spot of exercise ? by topping the 5 million metre mark on a rowing machine. The distance Body Zone Health Club member Bob Neal achieved equates to rowing the University Boat Race course three times a week for five years. Mr Neal, who comes from Bere Alston, said: ?The date was a remarkable coincidence as this has taken me more than five years.? He took to the Concept 2 rowing machine when lifelong back problems finally curtailed his long distance running activities.
