TWO people are being treated for serious injuries following accidents in the Okehampton area on Tuesday.
The first occurred at around 6.30am near Hilltown Cross, Follygate, involving a Ford Escort and a Vauxhall Vectra.
Firefighters from Okehampton had to free a 28-year-old man who was trapped in his vehicle and sustained multiple injuries. He was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where his condition was described as stable.
The driver of the other vehicle, whom police confirmed was from the Winkleigh area, suffered minor injuries in the crash.
An 80-year-old man from the Northlew area sustained serious leg injuries after his Fiat Tipo was in collision with a Land Rover Discovery on the A3079 Castle Cross junction at Broadbury.
The accident happened at around 12.45pm and the elderly man and his wife, who received minor injuries, were both flown to hospital after being cut free from their vehicle by firefighters.
The two occupants of the Land Rover were taken by land ambulance to hospital but police confirmed their injuries were also minor.
Okehampton Traffic Department is appealing for witnesses to both accidents and can be contacted through the central switchboard number on 08705 777444.
MPC Ken Bickell is asking drivers to be mindful of the wet weather which is believed to have been a factor in these accidents.
?Drivers need to take care in these conditions and I would ask them to slow down and leave a greater braking distance,? he said. ?People should also be using dipped headlights when it is raining.?
