WEST Devon has again topped the table when it comes to recycling in Devon.

 The borough has the best recycling rate in the county, according to the latest figures.

 Fifty seven percent of waste in West Devon was recycled, composted or reused in 2012 to 2013 making residents in the borough the most effective recyclers in Devon.

 It's the second year running that West Devon has come top in the county.

Cllr Robert Oxborough, West Devon Borough Council's community services chairman, said: 'I would like to thank the people of West Devon for their efforts in recycling so much of their waste.

 'It is in everyone's interests to recycle as much as possible both for environmental reasons but also because being efficient recyclers helps to keep down costs to council tax- payers.

 'Our achievement is not to be sniffed at but I would like to see us get even higher in future and make sure West Devon retains its Number One slot!'

 The figures, released by Devon County Council, also reveal that Teignbridge is second in the table with a recycling rate of 56% with South Hams third at 54%.

Devon as a whole is in the top three performing counties in the country.
