MEMBERS of West Dartmoor U3A will mark their 25th anniversary on Friday, September 30 with a whole-day celebration at Tavistock Town Hall.

The U3A (University of The Third Age), based in Tavistock, was founded in 1991. The 25-year celebration at the hall is entirely free to all and will run from 10.30am until 3.30pm. Tea and coffee will be available and the event will be opened by a special guest.

The ‘Third Age’ refers to anyone who is no longer in full time employment or bringing up a family.

Despite the name, there are no qualifications required and nothing needed except a lively mind and the determination to make the most out of retirement in the company of like-minded people.

The U3A aims to provide educational, creative and leisure opportunities by drawing on the knowledge, experience and skills of its members.

West Dartmoor U3A offers a monthly talk by an outside speaker on a wide variety of subjects, plus the chance to join over 30 special interest groups who meet regularly, focusing on everything from art appreciation to walking.

The event will focus on displays by the special interest groups, which plans to offer everything from music, videos and even a quiz, plus the chance to try your hand at chess, bridge and scrabble. There will also be short performances by the Singing For Fun group and the Play Reading group.

Organisers of the celebration encourage local people to come along and find out all that membership of the West Dartmoor U3A has to offer.
