OKEHAMPTON Jobcentre will be transformed into a 2001 Space Odyssey tomorrow (Friday) as part of the fundraising efforts for this year's Children In Need Appeal.

Staff will be entering into the spirit of the day by dressing to suit the theme and making delicious cream teas.

They are asking local businesses to support them by ordering cream teas which the 'space' team will deliver to the door in return for donations. The telephone number is 01837 673100.

Okehampton Job Centre is just one of the local businesses and groups holding fundraising events for Children in Need.

Staff at Wainhomes South West in Okehampton will be donning trunks, trainers and hair remover over the next few weeks as they get set to jog, swim and bizarrely wax their way to raising funds for the appeal.

Fun activities include a gruelling triathlon, involving a six-mile walk across the moor, a half-mile swim at Okehampton pool and a six-mile uphill cycle back to Wainhomes' office.

Construction director Irving Bunt will bravely have his legs waxed, and staff have been selling home-made cakes and garden produce.

'We managed to raise £5,000 last year and it'll be great if we can do the same, even beat it this year,' said Bob.
