MORE than 60 pairs took part in the men's guest day at Tavistock Golf Club which was won by Graham Kelly and his guest Roger Thorpe with 44 points on countback from Andre Evans and his guest Mark Nash. They were followed by Pete Anglis and John Faithful with 43 points. 

The monthly Stableford was played in conjunction with the Virgin Atlantic qualifier. Winner in division one was Alan Gawman with 41pts on countback from Jim Grant. Third was Sam Hurdwell with 38s.  In division two Ian Crichton had 37pts on countback from Mike Barnes and third wIth 36 was Phil Eastman. 

Topping division three with 38pts was Derek Bettany on countback from Ian Gasper. Third was David Station with 36. Winner of the qualifier was Jim Grant who, with club professional Glenn Richards, will represent Tavistock at the regional final at Saunton in August.

The ladies' three ball better ball attracted a large field. Winners with an excellent score of 80 points were Catherine Wells, Pauline Clifton and Shela Hirst from Falmouth and St Enodoc. 

The Tavistock trio of Bev Ruth, Nicky Gawman and Elaine Cooper were second with 75 points on countback from Heather Gale, Sue Auckland and Mary Marcham from RND.  

In the junior H L Smith Trophy the winner was Will Stenhouse nett 68 and runner-up was Sam Jessop with nett 69.

n In a nationwide draw, past captain Tony Sherlock was the lucky winner of tickets to the British Open held at Sandwich, Kent last weekend. 'A great opportunity seeing the world's leading golfers in action,' said Tony, 'especially Tom Watson — a case of Sherlock watching Watson!'
