Visitors to Cotehele were intrigued to see a spinning wheel being used in the garden. In a scene reminiscent of fairy tales, spinners Jane Deane and Amanda Hannaford posed for pictures at the end of a busy day preparing for workshops and activities being held at Cotehele after the summer holidays. Jane and Amanda are members of West Country Spinning, Weaving and Dyeing Guilds, and will be tutoring workshops, both for beginners and for more experienced enthusiasts. Amanda?s ?Beginning Spinning? course provides an introduction to the ancient art and keen students will be able try out their new skills on her ?Great Wheel?. Jane Deane?s ?Spinning and Weaving with Silk? needs a bit more experience, taking students to the stage where they can spin their own silk yarn to weave, embroider or knit into beautiful textiles. Jane will also be showing how she breeds her own silk worms. A few places are available on both these workshops and others ? on designing and weaving tapestry ? are also on offer in the programme called ?Threads? .
