IT may be two months away but Threads ? a major tapestry event set to span two months at the National Trust?s Cotehele House this autumn ? is already getting visitors in a spin. People have begun booking up for workshops relating to the event. Threads has been inspired by Cotehele?s collection of historic tapestries and will run from September 9 to October 28. It will trace the weaver?s art from ancient Egypt to the present day with exhibitions and activities to interest everyone, including children. Included in the programme are six adult weaving and spinning workshops from September 25 to October 13. There are options for complete beginners or experienced weavers. Tutors include some of the most creative contemporary tapestry weavers, spinners and dyers in the UK. However, the organiser Jenny Bailey said with people already booking to take part, the places would soon be taken up and latecomers would be left disappointed. ?We are really excited about this event as some of the country?s top spinners and weavers will be taking part,? said Jenny. ?This is going to be the longest single event we?ve ever held at Cotehele, and we are expecting thousands of people to take part in one way or another. ?
