Mannamead II 2 Okehampton Columbines 2 WITH a changed side from recent matches, Okehampton struggled to settle into their game and Mannamead were more dominant in the first half. Okehampton won an early short corner, but Mannamead started to take control, pressing Okehampton deep into their own half. It was no surprise when they scored midway into the half. Okehampton had their chances and should have equalised, but they went into half-time 2-0 down after Mannamead went further ahead from a penalty flick. Solid defending from Sandy Douglas, Jennie Humphrey and Abi Coltlon kept the Mannamead attack at bay in the second half, but Sophie Whiteley in goal had to make brave saves to keep Okehampton in with a chance of salvaging something. This was looking more likely with Jo Moppett dropping deeper to pick up the ball and good movement from the midfield and front players, especially Hannah Whiteley on the right wing. Jo Moppett finally opened the scoring for Okehampton with a fine solo effort. This was the impetus Okehampton needed and the Mannamead goal was under pressure with the midfield of Rachel Hammett, Alex Collins and Carol Taylor cutting out desperate Mannamead clearance and supporting the attack. Columbines? efforts were finally rewarded when Moppett and Jo Drake combined well to set up Viv Weatherington to deflect the ball past the goalkeeper. This week Okehampton are at home against Dartmouth.
