Okehampton Columbines 2
Mannamead 2
AFTER an easy win last week Columbines ladies? hockey team needed a good scrapping game ? and they got it.
Okehampton were too slow on to the ball in the first half and passed it to the opposing team. Jud Grant defended well to save Okehampton from being caught wide open, but it was only a matter of time before Mannamead scored.
Okehampton did create chances but they were not playing fluent hockey.
In the second half Okehampton were quicker on the ball and determined to score. The midfield of Jane Jones, Elaine Morgan and Caroline Friend were picking up the loose balls and became more involved in the Okehampton attack.
The pressure worked and Viv Weatherington scored two goals in quick succession to put Columbines 2-1 up.
Sharon Stephens in the Okehampton goal had to be alert and even had to head the ball out of play on one occasion.
But a lapse in defence allowed a Mannamead player a free shot at goal which she took well to equalise.
Okehampton piled on the pressure in the final quarter of the game, but despite the diving heroics of Jo Moppett, just could not get the winner.
